PERSONAL SAFETY
All the routes and information detailed on this site are for your guidance only. You are responsible for your own safety, and should decide for yourself if any given route is suitable for you, should you choose to walk it.
- Tell someone when and where you are going to walk, and when you expect to be back.
- If walking in secluded areas, try not to walk alone. It’s probably more fun if you go with someone else anyway.
- Be careful with traffic. Many of the walks involve areas with vehicle access. Always use designated crossings where available. The photos don’t always show the best or safest place to cross traffic areas. Make sure you can see the traffic both ways, and it can see you!
- If you are walking in poor light, wear reflective clothing.
- Take a mobile phone with you, just in case.
SAFE WALKING TIPS
- Wear suitable clothing and footwear. (Comfortable, supportive shoes and loose fitting clothing).
- Include a warm up and cool down period.
- Avoid rapid progression from one activity level to another.
- Drink plenty of fluid before, during, and after your walk.
- Take appropriate measures for the time of year and weather conditions. e.g. use sun screen, avoid peak temperatures during the day, wear warm clothing in cold weather, consider wearing a hat at any time of year, and have something with you to keep you dry if it should rain.
- If you have any medical condition, have recently had an operation, or have any doubt about your ability to undertake any of these walks, please consult your doctor before following any of the walks on these pages.
